about

A song in praise of Ireland with words by the Clare-born poet and hedge school master, Donnchadh Ruadh Mac Conmara (c.1715-1810). Bróna learnt this version from the self-titled album by Skara Brae, released on Gael Linn in 1971. A seminal album in Irish music, it has recently been reissued on vinyl by Gael Linn and, in recognition of its importance, Skara Brae received the TG4 Gradam Ceoil ‘Music Group 2022’ Award. The song is a favourite of Pete’s, who suggested it to the band having heard it sung by Séamus Begley.

Bróna McVittie (vocal/harp), Pete Quinn (keys), Karen Ryan (whistle).
