about

The first slip jig – a popular tune among Karen’s students – was composed by the Co. Tipperary accordion player, Paddy O’Brien. Paddy wrote the tune for his long-time friend and musical companion, the Co. Clare fiddler, teacher, scholar and former Director of Irish music programs at Boston College, Séamus Connolly. The second slip jig is by the Monaghan-born, Sligo-based harp player and composer, Michael Rooney, which Elaine learnt from the playing of Derry fiddle player Michael Sweeney. Karen found the third slip jig in R. M. Levey’s landmark collections, The Dance Music of Ireland, the first collection of which was published in 1858, the second in 1873, both in London.

Elaine Conwell (fiddle), James Earnshaw (fiddle), Orla Earnshaw (fiddle), Brogan McAuliffe (concertina), Elma McElligott (flute), Pete Quinn (piano), Karen Ryan (mandola).
