about

The first march was played by Sligo fiddler Michael Gorman, who led the first traditional Irish pub sessions in London in the late 1940s, and was included in Reg Hall’s 2001 double CD, The Sligo Champion. The Fiddle Music of County Sligo. It was subsequently included in the Fiddlers of Sligo tunebook compiled by fiddler Oisín Mac Diarmada and accordionist Daithí Gormley. Michael was a great friend and musical companion of Elaine and Karen’s music teacher, North Leitrim accordionist Tommy Maguire. We got the second march from our great friend, fiddle player Noreen Cullen, who learnt it from her fiddling hero, Seán McGuire, who recorded it on his 1969 album Champion Of Champions.

Brogan McAuliffe (concertina), Elma McElligott (flute), Annie Quinn (uilleann pipes), Katie Quinn (accordion), Pete Quinn (piano), Karen Ryan (fiddle).
