Written by the fiddle player and composer John Dwyer, the first jig was named after the townland in the Beara Peninsula, West Cork, where he was born – the eldest son in a family of noted musicians and composers which included his brothers Michael, Finbarr and Richie. We feel very fortunate to have befriended John’s daughter, Karen Dwyer-Burchill, and her family in recent years here in London. The second jig was composed by the Co. Tipperary fiddle player Seán Ryan, which we got from his collection of tunes, The Hidden Ireland. ‘The Crock of Gold’ is a popular reel composed by the Co. Galway flute and whistle player, Vincent Broderick, which was recorded by The Thatch Céilí Band on their 1986 album, The Legacy. Karen and Pete led their London-wide youth project, The Trad Gathering, in this tune as part of their celebration of Sligo flute player Roger Sherlock’s repertoire. The final three-part reel is a composition of the Co. Laois flute, whistle and concertina player Tommy Fitzharris which he recorded on The Bank of Turf, his 2018 duet album with fiddle player Dónal McCague.

Maureen Linane Hankins (accordion), Dee Havlin (flute), Brogan McAuliffe (concertina), Annie Quinn (uilleann pipes), Katie Quinn (fiddle), Pete Quinn (piano), Karen Ryan (fiddle).
